Danny Xu is a Registered Clinical Counsellor based in Vancouver, BC, providing compassionate and relationally focused counselling to adults, adolescents, couples, and families. He is particularly drawn to supporting clients through interpersonal difficulties, life and career transitions, grief and loss, and trauma. He also enjoys working with couples and families to strengthen connection and repair relationships affected by recurring conflict, disconnection, infidelity, or betrayal.

Danny brings counselling experience at various settings to his work. At an outpatient practice, he supported clients navigating concerns such as complex attachment trauma, interpersonal difficulties, codependency, breakup and divorce, complex grief, career transitions, recurring conflict between couples, infidelity repair, and communication challenges across generations within families. As a school counsellor at a Montessori school, he led social-emotional learning groups and provided individual check-ins focused on students’ emotional awareness and regulation, as well as family and peer relationship skills. Across these experiences, Danny has been continually struck by the capacity for change and the will to live more fully that people can discover within themselves when they feel safe, understood, and supported.

Danny’s own life experiences have also informed his work with clients. Having grown up, lived, and worked in Canada, China, and different parts of the United States, he developed an appreciation for the complicated mix of excitement, growth, connection, uncertainty, fear, and loss that can accompany entering a new chapter of life or adjusting to a new cultural environment. These experiences have given him a lived understanding of what it can feel like to find one’s footing during major life transitions. He finds deep meaning in helping clients navigating transitions discover a direction that reflects what matters to them, develop greater trust in themselves, and embrace the many shades of life as they move forward.

Together, these professional and personal experiences helped shape Danny’s counselling philosophy. He believes that safety, awareness, and practical skills can create greater freedom and will to live intentionally and fully. His integrative approach draws from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), existential psychotherapy, attachment-based work, and trauma-informed mind-body perspectives. At the same time, he believes that the relationship between counsellor and client is central to meaningful change. Feeling genuinely seen, heard, and understood is therapeutic in itself and provides the foundation for exploring difficult experiences, recognizing patterns, and trying new ways of relating to oneself and others. For this reason, Danny adapts his approach to each client’s personality, experiences, needs, and goals.

Outside the counselling room, Danny enjoys CrossFit, yoga, cooking and baking for friends and family, painting landscapes, cheering on the Texas Longhorns, and exploring the coastal mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
